Don’t worry about how her name is pronounced. Just allow her music to carry you through a moment where soft melodies peruse your inner self, and her dainty, jazzy vocals treat your ears in a delightful way. At age 21, London’s, Szjerdene is soon to be a voice most will come to love. Self Managed and Unsigned, Szjerdene may be young – but, in her own words, she is a product of the past. The songwriter and musical all-rounder has forsaken the oft-rodden road of modern, commercial R&B, in favour of honing her love of the old school jazz sound, putting her own twist on the genre.

Szjerdene draws inspiration from some of the great – Etta James, Sarah Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye, to name but a few – and is currently working on her Album, entitled ‘Tailored’, which promises to be a soulful, bluesy fusion of sounds both old and new.

Blue Lullaby along with two other introductory gentle ballads, “Safe” and “Drifting,” are from “Collage: The Demo” introduce us to sounds so distinct and pure. The milk chocolate chanteuse has tones reminiscent of Bjork with stylistic echoes of Adele fluttering through. The granola crunch band creates just the right coffeehouse vibe needed to make these intimate songs feel both personal and polished for the backpacker set and lovers of good music everywhere.

With the standard of Szjerdene’s demo (available on myspace.com/szjerdene), you can definitely be assured that we will be hearing a lot more from this individual this coming year, as she continues to go from strength to strength and showcases exactly why she is one of the brightest artists in British music. Having performed upon some of London’s leading stages and now after brief stints in other lines of work, she is concentrating solely on her writing and building upon a fan base that will no doubt grow in the near future. This is certainly an artist you need to keep your attention on.
